Defendant sentenced for unauthorized use of vehicles
A Minot man has been sentenced to time served and probation after entering a change of plea to guilty for two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, a Class C felony.
Michael Odendaal, 27, Minot, entered his change of plea in North Central District Court on Thursday to the charges, and was sentenced by Judge Todd Cresap to five years with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, to first serve 165 days with credit for 165 days served. Odendaal was ordered to complete two years of supervised probation and pay $525 in court fines and fees.
According to court documents, Odendaal was detained by the Minot Police Department on May 12 for driving under suspension, while in possession of a 2024 Ford Bronco. Ward County deputies were dispatched the same day to a residential address in Sawyer for a reported stolen vehicle, which the victim identified as the Ford Bronco. The victim stated Odendaal was a former employee of his, and advised the deputies that a Peterbilt 379 semi-truck they observed in a ditch near his residence was also his and had been stolen.
The value of the stolen Ford Bronco was about $35,000 and the semi-truck was $150,000 according to court documents.
