Big wins top scoreboards across North Dakota

Several key matchups played out across Class A and 9-Man action that will help determine the seeding for the postseason that is fast approaching.

North Prairie 50, St. John 8

St. John (2-2, 2-5) made the trip to North Prairie (3-1, 5-2) and the Cougars defended their home field over the Woodchucks.

Jonathan Mears scored the first touchdown of the game roughly halfway through the first quarter on a 35-yard run and Layton Olson added another running score at the end of the quarter for the 14-0 lead.

Olson scored his second rushing touchdown on a 55-yard scamper halfway through the second quarter. Cole Henderson returned a 28-yard interception for the next score for the Cougars to take the 30-0 lead into halftime.

Olson posted his third score on a 67-yard run halfway through the third quarter, Mears posted his second score of the night on a passing touchdown to Jeffry Rosinski. Brett Tastad scooped a fumble and returned it 34-yards for the second defensive touchdown of the game.

Going into the final quarter of play, North Prairie held a 50-0 lead. St. John got onto the scoreboard with just over a minute left in the game on a 55-yard run by Christopher Grant for the final score.

Olson had 330-yards on 14 carries for the Cougars in the win.

Bishop Ryan 33, Ray/Powers Lake 19

Bishop Ryan (3-1, 5-1) traveled to face Ray/Powers Lake (4-1, 5-2) in a solid test after last week’s loss. The game was evenly contested in the first quarter until the Lions took a 20-7 lead into halftime. That same score endured throughout the third quarter of play.

With minutes left in the game, Bishop Ryan scored twice compared to Ray/Powers Lake scoring once for the 33-19 final score.

Des Lacs-Burlington 55, Surrey 6

The Lakers (2-2, 3-3) hosted the Mustangs 0-4, 0-5) on Friday night and overpowered the guests from Surrey. Des Lacs-Burlington was up 41-0 in the first couple of minutes of the second quarter. The Lakers led 48-0 at half and 55-0 with one minute to play in the third quarter. Surrey would score towards the end of the fourth quarter for the 55-6 final.

Carrington 35, Rugby 14

Rugby (2-3, 3-4) traveled to Carrington (3-2, 5-2) and trailed the Cardinals 21-6 at the half. Carrington added another score to start the second half with a 28-6 lead. The Panthers fought back and scored at the end of the third quarter for the home team to hold a 28-14 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals scored one last time in the first three minutes of the final quarter for the home win.

Bottineau 35, Grafton 12

Bottineau (3-2, 4-3) traveled to play Grafton (2-3, 2-5) and went home with the win. The Braves led early and held the lead at 28-6 at the end of the third quarter. Both teams scored at the start of the fourth quarter to make the game 35-12 that would be the final.

Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn 68, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 26

The third ranked and undefeated Sioux (3-0, 7-0) hosted the Mavericks (3-0, 5-2) in a contest to measure each team’s 3-0 conference record. The offense for Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn powered to a 38-20 halftime lead and never slowed down. With eight minutes to play in the third quarter, the score was 54-20 and with three minutes to play in the same quarter the score was 60-21 enroute to the 68-26 final score for the game.
