Suspect makes initial appearance

A Minot man charged with two counts of attempted murder following a domestic incident on Saturday made his initial appearance in North Central District Court on Monday.

Troy Edward Sanders, 34, Minot, has been charged with eight felonies and one misdemeanor stemming from the incident, including: a count of attempted murder-intentional or knowing-adult victim and attempted murder-intenitonal or knowing-child victim, both Class A felonies; child abuse-victim under 6, a Class B felony; domestic violence-serious bodily injury, four counts of terrorizing-child victim, all Class C felonies; and one count of criminal mischief-willful tamper-reckless-$2,000-$10,000 or intentional $100-$2,000.

Sanders has also been charged with simple assault-peace officer or correctional officer, a Class C felony, and criminal mischief-willful-tamper/damage, a Class B misdemeanor, in a separate case. According to court documents, Sanders was in a holding cell at the Ward County Jail as he was being processed following his arrest and smashed his head into a pane of glass with such force that it caused it to shatter and spiderweb.

Sanders allegedly refused to comply with requests from correctional officers to place his hands through the doors to be handcuffed, and punched one of the correctional officers when they attempted to enter the cell.

Before his initial appearance, Sanders was being held on no bond with $75,000 in cash or corporate surety. He has applied for indigent defense services, and his next hearing has not yet been scheduled, according to court records.
