Dancers with the Rinat Mouzafarov Institute of Dance and Ballet Theatre will showcase the heritage of Scandinavia in daily programs that mark the studio’s 29th appearance at Norsk Hostfest.
The popular Ski Fantasy dance will be performed during the daily show that begins at 4 p.m. in the Upper Fjord. The ski dance is scheduled for about 4:15 p.m. Mouzafarov said the dance has been part of Hostfest since 1994.
A master choreographer who has worked with Olympic level figure skaters and gymnasts, Mouzafarov drew on his experience with athletes to imagine the possibility of a dance on skis. He worked with his advanced Minot ballet students to develop in them the strength and skill necessary to perform such a dance. This year’s Ski Fantasy will feature three of his advanced dancers.
About 60 youngsters and youth will be performing in the show, which will include a May Pole dance, Swedish folk dance and Norwegian folk dances, including a partnering dance featuring male and female dancers. There also will be a lutefisk dance with participants in fish costumes and a Dala Horse dance.
In addition to the 4 p.m. show, dancers will be on parade each day at 11 a.m.
