Man charged in 2021 Minot shooting spree sentenced in federal prison
An Indianapolis, Indiana, man was sentenced in U.S. District Court in for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on Thursday.
Anthony Lee Davis, 32, entered a guilty plea on April 16 to the charge, stemming from an incident on Oct. 23, 2021, in Minot. U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Davis to serve nine years and two months in federal prison and three months of supervised release.
According to information from U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider, Davis possessed and discharged a 9mm pistol at people and property while driving a vehicle erratically around Minot. Davis fired his two bullets from pistol at another motorist, striking the driver’s side door of the vehicle and the driver in the left elbow. According to the probable cause affidavit, the driver who was shot was able to drive himself to the emergency room at a Minot hospital.
According to a story in the Oct. 27, 2021, edition of The Minot Daily News, Davis later crashed his vehicle after striking another vehicle and rolled his vehicle twice. Davis fled the scene on foot, threatening passersby from calling the police, until he was arrested by Minot Police officers. Davis was under supervised probation at the time for an unrelated offense.
“This strong sentence is a fair one considering the defendant’s reckless violence and actions putting the public in harm’s way,” Schneider said. “As this case shows, the United States Attorney’s Office will be absolutely unsparing when it comes to making federal defendants out of felons who illegally possess firearms.”
