Male suspect arrested after weekend domestic incident
A Minot man was arrested on multiple charges stemming from a domestic incident on Saturday.
According to City of Minot information, the Minot Police Department responded to a call in the early morning on Saturday from a juvenile bystander reporting someone was assaulting a family member. Officers arrived at the scene to find Troy Edward Sanders, 33, Minot, assaulting a 28-year-old female in the grass outside the residence.
According to the information, the incident began as a verbal argument between the two, who are family or household members. During the altercation, Sanders destroyed the alleged victim’s phone to prevent her from using it. Witnesses reported that Sanders struck the victim multiple times and placed her in a chokehold, while threatening her and three family members – ages 7, 6, and 4 – who were present and witnessed the assault. Sanders is alleged to have picked up the 4-year-old in a chokehold until the child went limp and the child was thrown to the ground.
The alleged victim managed to break free and attempted to flee, but Sanders chased her down, tackling her in the grass outside and continuing the assault. Officers arrived at the scene to find Sanders physically attacking the victim, with one arm around her neck, repeatedly threatening her life. A bystander jumped from a second-story balcony and physically intervened, helping to stop the attack as officers approached and arrested Sanders.
Sanders was transferred to the Ward County Jail, and charged with two counts of attempted murder, a Class A felony; child abuse for a victim under 6, a Class B felony; four counts of terrorizing, a Class C felony; domestic violence-serious bodily injury, a Class C felony; and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.
The alleged female victim and her family members were evaluated for their injuries at a Minot hospital. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the information, and Sanders is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in North Central District Court at the Ward County Courthouse.
