Highway Patrol to conduct checkpoint in McHenry County

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has announced a sobriety checkpoint will be conducted in conjunction with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office in McHenry County on Friday, Sept. 20.

The sobriety checkpoint will be conducted at a predetermined location in McHenry County, and additional saturation patrols will be conducted. The goal of these enforcement operations is to enhance roadway safety by removing impaired drivers and reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes.

According to NDHP information, there have been 65 fatalities in 59 crashes on North Dakota roadways through Sept. 10. Alcohol was involved in 15.4% of the crashes.

“Driving sober is one of the simplest ways to prevent crashes. Impaired driving isn’t just breaking a law; it is endangering lives. Roadways are shared spaces, and everyone should be able to travel without fear of being harmed by other drivers’ irresponsible choices,” NDHP Northwest Regional Sgt. Joshua Gudvangen said.

Results from the planned enforcement will be released the week following the enforcement event.
