Highway Patrol releases enforcement results
The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released the results from enforcement efforts conducted in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies in four counties at the end of August.
The NDHP, Williston Police Department and Williams County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint at the 1700 block of 26th Street West in Williston on Aug. 30 between 9-11 p.m.
A total of 479 vehicles went through the checkpoint and 10 drivers were screened for impairment. Three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence – one for refusal to submit to a chemical test, three for drug possession, two for drug paraphernalia and one for driving under suspension. An additional citation was issued for an open container.
Following the checkpoint, the Highway Patrol conducted a saturation patrol of the area, resulting in one additional arrest for DUI, one for refusal to submit to a chemical test and one citation for an open container.
The enforcement efforts were a part of the Highway Patrol’s commitment to the Vision Zero strategy, which aims to establish a culture of personal responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others to prevent alcohol and drug-related crashes.
