Guilty plea entered for burglary, domestic violence
A Minot woman has been sentenced to serve 18 days in two cases after entering a change of plea to guilty on charges of felony burglary and domestic violence.
Ali Rae Long, 33, Minot, entered her change of plea in the two cases after both had been scheduled for jury trials for Tuesday. Long pleaded guilty to one Class C felony count of burglary and one Class C felony count of domestic violence-serious bodily injury. A Class C felony count of preventing arrest was dismissed.
The affidavit of probable cause in the burglary case charged on Sept. 11, 2023, is not available to the public, according to Ward County Clerk of Court staff.
According to the affidavit of probable cause in the second case, patrol units responded to a report of a physical altercation at a northwest Minot address, where the caller said their roommate “choked out” another roommate.
Officers arrived to find a 2-year-old in the stairwell of the apartment complex and made contact with the female victim, who was the child’s mother. She said Long had locked them out of the residence.
She told investigators she and Long had been discussing the passing of Long’s previous significant other, during which she became upset and began throwing items around the residence. The victim said Long charged her and “choke slammed” her, squeezing her neck until she nearly lost consciousness. Investigators noted apparent bruising or petechiae on the victim’s neck.
The officers made contact with Long, who opened the door and identified herself only as “ghost.” Officers observed the odor of alcohol from Long and placed her under arrest despite her attempts to close the door.
Judge Gary Lee sentenced Long to identical sentences of 360 days in the Ward County Jail, to first serve 18 days with credit for 18 days already served. The felony counts will be deemed misdemeanors pending Long’s successful completion of 18 months of supervised probation.
Lee ordered Long to complete a domestic violence course and to have no contact with the victims in both cases. Long also was assessed $29.99 in restitution for the burglary case and must pay $1,625 in court fines and fees.
