Dakota Prairie Grasslands CCC Campground closes for construction

BISMARCK – The USDA Forest Service Dakota Prairie Grasslands (DPG) has closed the National Forest System Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Campground, the Maah Daah Hey Trailhead and the Long X Trailhead to begin a construction project scheduled through Nov. 15.

The area closure order may remain in effect until July 12, 2025, or until it is rescinded.

The DPG is utilizing Great American Outdoors Act funds to renovate the campground facilities, realign site infrastructure with outdoor recreation demands and improve public access to the adjacent wildlands and trail systems. The modifications include upgrading the campground’s gravel roads, camping sites, fire rings, picnic tables and vault toilets, establishing a large equestrian trailhead that connects with the Maah Daah Hey, Sunset and Long X trail systems, replete with horse corrals and more.

“This project has been in the works for about four years and we’re looking forward to the new facilities that will provide a better experience for campers,” McKenzie District Ranger Kim Anderson said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
