BISMARCK – The deadline to apply for North Dakota’s gas tax refund is June 30.

North Dakotans working in the industrial and agricultural industries who are eligible are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity, State Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus said.

Farmers, ranchers and industrial consumers may be eligible for a refund of 23 cents per gallon for gasoline/gasohol purchased. Those consumers are eligible for refunds because their equipment typically does not utilize public roads. Revenue generated from taxing motor fuels is allocated for the upkeep of highways.

In 2023, $122,000 in refunds were issued for about 530,000 gallons of motor fuel sold in 2022. Refunds not claimed, remain in the Highway Distribution Fund maintained by the Office of State Treasurer.
