Funds available for pantry, shelter programs

Central North Dakota has been chosen to receive funding from EFSP Phase 41 Funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the counties of Bottineau, Burke, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville and Ward.

The distribution of federal funds is providing $23,423 to the area through a state board funded by a disbursement from a board chaired by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consisting of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, the Jewish Federations of North America, The Salvation Army and United Way Worldwide.

Local agencies chosen to receive funds must be nonprofits or units of government that are eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.

Qualifying organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program Funds should contact Christy Miller at the Souris Valley United Way. The deadline for applications to be returned to the Souris Valley United Way is Friday, June 28.
