District 38’s endorsed candidates move on to general election
Dan Ruby was the leading candidate in the District 38 Republican House race Tuesday night, with 1,391 votes, holding 42.77% of the total. Running mate Christina Wolff also is advancing to the general election with 1,011 votes. Results are unofficial.
Lisa Olson, who challenged the two endorsed candidates, finished with 844 votes.
Ruby, the incumbent in District 38, is the chairman of the House Transportation Committee, member of several committees and councils within the House and the CEO of two businesses. He has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2001.
Wolff, Minot, is a small business owner, District 38 secretary and president of Republican Women of Minot.
In his time as a member of the House, Ruby has been the primary sponsor of approved bills related to license plates for mobility impaired individuals, requiring clear language on automatic renewals of subscription services, banning smoking in public places or workplaces and within 20 feet of doors and a measure regarding transportation insurance and driver policy.
He said his biggest accomplishments have been three bills he has sponsored that were intended to eliminate abortion on demand in North Dakota.
“Being in the Legislature when Roe vs. Wade was overturned, giving the states the ability to govern for ourselves was very rewarding,” he said.
Watching poll results come in, Ruby stated, “It’s always a rewarding thing to see when the work and effort you put show the results you were wanting.” He further stated he’s “always honored when the people vote for me.”
Step number one for Ruby is seeing what the session has in store.
“Every session is different, depending on which committees you get put on, and what happens there,” he said. “It’s going to be important to get people placed in Appropriations to properly represent Minot and the surrounding areas to ensure we get what we need.”
When asked what his goals are he said he’ll step up to do what is best for Minot and his district. He is open to people bringing issues to his office for him to pursue.
