Sawyer bar owner pleads guilty

A Sawyer bar owner has been given a suspended sentence and probation after pleading guilty to permitting minors to enter her establishment.

Cynthia Ellis, 59, Sawyer, entered her change of plea to the Class A misdemeanor at a hearing in North Central District Court on Wednesday. The charge against Ellis stemmed from an incident on March 3, in which the Ward County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of underage individuals being served at the Whiskey Bandits bar in Sawyer.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, 17 minors were cited for being inside the bar and 15 were charged with minor in consumption.

Judge Gary Lee sentenced Ellis to serve 360 days in the Ward County Jail with all 360 days suspended and 360 days of unsupervised probation. Ellis also was assessed $325 in court fines and fees.
