Nominations sought for history awards

BISMARCK – The State Historical Society of North Dakota is seeking nominations for the annual awards program recognizing outstanding achievement in three categories of history: Excellence in Local History, Heritage Profile Honor and North Dakota Person of History. The nomination deadline is Friday, July 12, at 5 p.m.

The Excellence in Local History Award recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations who have dedicated time, talent and efforts to local and regional history and serve as a role model of excellence.

The Heritage Profile Honor Award recognizes individuals who have made lasting or significant contributions in extending the knowledge and understanding of the academic history of North Dakota and have demonstrated long-term commitment in pursuit of these goals. Eligible individuals may be living or deceased.

The North Dakota Person of History Award recognizes individuals who have had prominent roles in the history of North Dakota. It posthumously honors those who have made a lasting or significant contribution to the growth, development, and progress of the state or the social well-being of its citizens, who have achieved acclaim or prominence in their fields of endeavor or have had a profound effect upon state history or people’s lives. A nominee must have been deceased at least 10 years.
