Drake-Anamoose top grads prepare for college

The top two graduates at Drake-Anamoose High School will be heading off to the same college this fall but with different goals in mind.

Halie Fletschock and Emma Spear are the valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2024 graduating class, respectively. The graduation ceremony for Drake-Anamoose High School will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at the Drake school gymnasium.

Spear, daughter of Scott and Rachel Spear, will attend Bismarck State College in the fall to study farm and ranch management and plans to join the agriculture club and choir. Living on her family farm fostered a love for the business and gave her an inside look on how difficult it can be.

Her favorite memory of high school was being named the first president of Drake-Anamoose’s FFA chapter at a homecoming dance and that she was overwhelmed with excitement.

In addition to FFA, Spear is active in 4-H. She participates in showmanship, showing cows and poultry, communication arts and archery.

Fletschock, daughter of Becky and Brad Fletschock, is heading to Bismarck State College for nursing but said she is keeping an open mind about her studies and is open to change. She said she was drawn to nursing because she can apply the skills to everyday life.

Fletschock said while she is nervous about moving away from home, she knows something good will come of it.

She is involved in volleyball, softball and basketball and said her favorite memories of high school were made playing basketball with her friends.

When asked what advice she would give her younger self, Fletschock said, “Try to enjoy it more. … Really appreciate the good times.”

The graduates are: John Bossert, Halie Fletschock, Devin Geigle, Kaidence Hase, Rachel Held, Ashley Irish, Tyler Meckle, McKenna Melaas, Cayden Miiller, George Nickelson, Warren Plute and Emma Spear.
