A team from the Minot Fire Department took top honors in the Special Olympics North Dakota Bearcat Pull on Saturday.

Special Olympics North Dakota (SOND) worked with the Minot Police Department and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to organize the first Law Enforcement Torch Run Truck Pull fundraiser.

The minimum number required to pull was 10 team members. Additional team members could serve as cheer squad, coaches, moral support or alternates if a team pulls more than once. The goal was to find out which team would be able to pull the SWAT team’s 19,000-pound Bearcat 150 feet in the shortest amount of time.

The winning team from the fire department was comprised of Capt. Alex Coleman, Austin Bernston, Brad Newman, Charles Shoemaker, Damon Laks, Jacob Filkins, Jake Lentz, Jesse Nerem, Kellen Laskowski, Kerry Schriock, Mark Mathieson, Paul Laskowski and Ryan Bell.

Second place was the Ward County Sheriff’s Office, followed by 219th Security Forces Squadron, Minot SWAT, NW Squad, Souris Valley Crossfit and Minot Police Department/Bomb Squad.

SOND Westfield manager Renee Dufner said she is happy about the turnout for the event and happy Minot’s law enforcement officers are so involved in their community. All funds raised from the event will assist SOND athletes and their events.
