Tax credit program sees high participation

BISMARCK – An estimated 92% of eligible North Dakota homeowners applied to take advantage of a new Primary Residence Credit, according to the State Tax Department.

The 2023 Legislature approved a $500 credit to be taken off property tax bills that go out this coming December, but homeowners needed to apply by this past March 31. The tax department estimated between about 150,000 and 160,000 homeowners were eligible.

“I am very pleased with the rate of participation amongst North Dakota homeowners applying for the Property Residence Credit,” said North Dakota Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus. “Our agency received nearly 140,000 applications for the introductory property tax credit program, and we anticipate even more interest next year.”
