Region 8 Speech meet winners announced

Many area schools will be advancing to state competition from the Region 8 speech meet held April 6 at South Prairie High School. The competition includes 14 categories.

In the humorous category, the top eight students were: first, Joshua Lindbo, Max-South Prairie; second, Jersey Heinle, Glenburn; third, Madelyn Hogue, Max-South Prairie; fourth, Caydence Stehley, Nedrose; fifth, Mason Smith, Max-South Prairie; sixth, Ashlee Hilton, Velva; seventh, Hazel Moen, Westhope-Newburg; and eighth, Lindley Markle, Surrey.

In the radio category, the top eight students were: first, Zack Volson, Drake-Anamoose; second, Gregory Vierley III, Velva; third, Piper Thommson, Surrey; fourth, Braden Savelkoul, MLS Mohall; fifth, Jairus Braaten, Velva; sixth, Cohen Carlson, Our Redeemer’s; seventh, Lene’e Volker, MLS Mohall; eighth, Austin Iverson, Our Redeemer’s.

In the impromptu category, the top eight students were: first, Chukwuka Ugobi, Our Redeemer’s; second, Skylar Beck, Max-South Prairie; third, Evelyn Seil, Velva; fourth, Calen Rohrback, Max-South Prairie; fifth, Martin Heberlie, Lewis & Clark; sixth, Gavin Bedard, Bottineau; seventh, Kassydy Hochhalter, Lewis & Clark; eighth, Kaden Finch, Our Redeemer’s.

In the storytelling category, the top six students were: first, Hope Gravley, Our Redeemer’s; second, Calen Rohrbach, Max-South Prairie; third, Hailee Cree, Velva; fourth, Peyton Vix, Our Redeemer’s; fifth, Grace Boschert, Glenburn; sixth, Amelia Hogue, Max-South Prairie.

The state event will be held April 27 in Mandan.
