Minot man sentenced for bike theft

Todd Solberg

A Minot man was sentenced to 19 days in the Ward County Jail and two years of probation after pleading guilty to theft of a bicycle and possession of methamphetamine.

Todd William Solberg, 41, Minot, entered his change of pleas before North Central District Judge Gary Lee on March 15 in Minot. Solberg was charged on June 17, 2023, after a Minot police officer recognized a bicycle in his possession as reported stolen, confirming the theft with the use of the bike’s serial number. According to court documents, the Borealis Flume is valued at about $2,500, and Solberg previously had been identified as a suspect in the theft.

A search of Solberg after he was detained discovered a marijuana pipe and half a gram of methamphetamine.

Lee sentenced Solberg to serve 19 days of a five-year sentence with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on the theft count, with credit for 19 days already served. Solberg was ordered to complete two years of supervised probation and to have no contact with the victim.

Solberg was sentenced to serve 19 days of a 360-day sentence in the Ward County Jail for the second count, which will be deemed a misdemeanor upon the satisfaction of the terms of his probation. Lee also required Solberg to complete a chemical dependency evaluation and assessed $525 in court fines and fees.
