Guilty plea results in probation

A Minot man has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to his role in a September 2023 storage unit theft.

Stanley Leon Miller, 57, Minot, entered a change of plea to guilty to a Class C felony burglary charge in North Central District Court on Friday. According to court documents, two individuals were captured on security video using bolt cutters to break into a storage unit at a southeast Minot business to steal a radio station and charger along with four mud tires and rims. The business owner who provided the video to investigators identified Miller in the video saying they recognized him from previous break-ins.

Minot Police later identified the vehicle used to transport the stolen items, whose owner said Miller and co-defendant Brandon Lee Decouteau had borrowed the vehicle at the time of the break-in and was under the impression the tires belonged to them. Miller had an active warrant at the time for failing to appear and was later arrested at his home.

Judge Richard Hagar sentenced Miller to 18 months with the Department of Corrections, with 18 months suspended. Miller was ordered to complete 18 months of supervised probation and to have no contact with the victim or the business and to pay $525 in court fines and fees. Restitution to the victim has been reserved pending a later hearing.
