Deferred sentence accelerated in burglary case

A deferred sentence has been revoked for a former Minot man who pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy to commit burglary in December 2021, after failing to abide by court orders.

Seth Scott Heim, 29, currently a resident of the James River Correctional Center in Jamestown, pleaded guilty in August 2022, to entering a secured garage with three co-defendants and breaking into a Minot Police patrol vehicle.

According to court documents, the red/blue light bar and a portable police radio were found to be missing from the vehicle. After being arrested, Heim identified his co-conspirators, Paige Sager, Jeremiah Johnson and Ryan Stevenson, and that they gained access to the secured garage after finding a set of dropped keys that included a key fob to a Minot apartment complex. The estimated value of the stolen radio was $4,421.

Heim was originally granted a deferred sentence by North Central District Court Judge Douglas Mattson of 179 days of a 366 -day sentence with the Department of Corrections, with credit for 179 days already served, along with 18 months of supervised probation. Heim was also assessed $800 in court fines and fees and $684.99 in restitution to be paid jointly with his co-defendants.

An order to revoke the deferral was filed in North Central District Court on Tuesday, with court records indicating a hearing to show cause is scheduled for July 19 due to Heim failing to make payments on the $999.99 balance remaining in the case.
