A Minot man has been sentenced to serve two years through the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after a change of plea was entered to three felony charges related to an incident at Minot apartment last summer.
John North Clark, 46, Minot, entered his change of plea on March 7 in North Central District Court to two counts of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon and a count of preventing arrest, all Class C felonies.
According to court documents, Clark was arrested and charged following an incident at a southwest Minot apartment, where he attempted to break into the victims' residence and threatened them with a knife. Minot Police arrived at the scene as the incident was in progress and incapacitated Clark using stun guns when he refused to drop the weapon.
The victims told investigators they were alerted to Clark's arrival after he crashed his vehicle into their parked car outside the residence and began banging on the front door. Clark kicked in the front door and broke several windows as he attempted to gain access to the residence before he was detained.
District Judge Todd Cresap sentenced Clark to serve two years of a five-year sentence with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with credit for 249 days already served. Clark was ordered to complete three years of supervised probation upon release, have no contact with the victims and maintain a 150-foot distance from their residence. Clark also was assessed $525 in court fines and fees along with $1,665.67 in restitution.
One Class C felony count of terrorizing a child victim and a Class B felony burglary charge were dismissed in accordance with the plea agreement with Ward County prosecutors.
