A Hazen man has been arrested and charged with a count each of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and heroin following an investigation by the Ward County Narcotics Task Force.
Dustin Paul Brown-Bumbalough, 25, Hazen, made his initial appearance in North Central District Court on Thursday afternoon before Judge Todd Cresap. According to court documents, task force officers received a tip from a Metro Area Task Force Officer in the Bismarck area that Brown-Bumbalough was traveling to Minot by train and possibly would be transporting a significant amount of fentanyl.
Task force officers tracked Brown-Bumbalough disembarking at the Minot Amtrak depot shortly before midnight on March 6, with the probable cause affidavit noting he had three other active warrants for narcotics-related offenses in another jurisdiction. A task force officer approached the man, who initially denied he was Brown-Bumbalough until after he was detained.
According to court documents, a search of Brown-Bumbalough's luggage discovered 30-50 F30 fentanyl pills, 8 grams of fentanyl powder, 7.9 grams of a brown substance consistent with heroin, bindles of tinfoil containing fentanyl powder, along with a smattering of paraphernalia.
Brown-Bumbalough is being held at the Ward County Jail on a $20,000 cash or surety bond. His next court date is his preliminary hearing scheduled for April 11.
