Driver pleads guilty to fourth DUI

A Minot man was sentenced to a reduced sentence and drug court after pleading guilty to his fourth DUI related offense in 15 years.

Christopher Rehder, 55, Minot, entered his change of plea to guilty to two of three counts before North Central District Court Judge Richard Hagar on March 19. Rehder was charged on Jan. 1 with a single count of actual personal control-.08% or greater-intoxicating liquor-fourth or subsequent offense in 15 years, a Class C felony; duty upon striking highway fixtures or other property, an infraction; and providing false information to law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Rehder was arrested following a call the evening of Jan. 1 to law enforcement from an individual reporting an intoxicated male changing a tire near the Bunny Barn at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. According to court documents, a Ward County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and made contact with Rehder, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication.

According to the affidavit, Rehder admitted to drinking a lot that evening and later provided a breathalyzer result of .198 alcohol breath content. Investigators found damage to the grill of the truck and discovered damage to a chain link fence 600 feet south of the vehicle’s location.

Hagar sentenced Rehder to serve one year and one day with the N.D. Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with all but 10 days suspended and credit for six days already served. Rehder was ordered to complete two years of supervised probation and isrequired to enroll and complete Drug Court and submit to a 24/7 sobriety program. Rehder was assessed $2,525 in court fines and fees, and restitution was reserved for 60 days for the damaged fence.
