Defendant sentenced to time served

A Minot man has been sentenced to probation and time served after pleading guilty to a single count of Class C felony aggravated assault related to an incident in September 2023 in Minot.

Curtis Martin Danielson, 45, Minot, was arrested in the early morning hours of Sept. 6, 2023, after Minot Police responded to a report of a possible attack with a knife at a northwest Minot residence.

According to court documents, the victim told investigators he saw Danielson enter his car parked on the street and exited his home with bear mace to confront him. The victim made contact with Danielson and turned back to his home to call police when he said Danielson attacked him with a box cutter-style knife. The victim fought Danielson for control of the bear mace and was able to spray Danielson with it. Court documents showed that the victim received a cut 6 inches long across his abdomen and the incident was recorded on the home’s security cameras.

Danielson entered his change of plea on March 13 before North Central District Court Judge Douglas Mattson, pleading guilty to aggravated assault, while a charge of unlawful entry into a vehicle was dismissed. Mattson sentenced Danielson to serve two days of a five-year sentence with the N.D. Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with credit for two days already served. Danielson was ordered to complete three years of supervised probation and have no contact with the victim. Danielson was assessed $525 in court fines and fees.
