Comment sought on proposed wetland mitigation

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking public comments until April 8 on a proposed wetland mitigation site south of Minot, in Ward County. The North Dakota Department of Transportation has submitted a plan for the Ward County 1 Wetland Mitigation Bank Site, which consists of 38.1 acres about 11.8 miles south and 2.2 miles east of Minot.

The site includes a mostly drained wetland basin that historically totaled about 30 acres in size. NDDOT proposes to restore 23.6 acres of wetlands on the site and include 5.1 acres of required 50-foot upland buffer and 9.1 acres of adjacent uplands.

The purpose is to provide compensatory wetland mitigation credits within the Souri River Basin Regional Service Area to offset authorized, unavoidable impacts incurred during infrastructure improvements and maintenance.

Written comments should be submitted by email to CENWO-OD-RND@usace.army.mil.
