1 min read

A Wisconsin man was arrested by Minot Police Tuesday morning after breaking into a southeast Minot home and taking a shower.

The Minot Police Department said officers were called to the residence after 9:30 a.m. when the homeowner reported a man had entered their home without permission through an unlocked door and an unknown vehicle was in their driveway. Officers arrived on scene to find the suspect, identified as Brandon H. Merrit, 25, Hayward, Wisconsin, taking a shower in the homeowner's bathroom.

Merritt allegedly resisted officers while being taken into custody, and investigators reportedly discovered Merrit had stolen the vehicle prior to trespassing. Merritt was subsequently charged with theft of property (motor vehicle), a Class B felony; criminal trespass (dwelling), a Class C felony; and preventing arrest, a Class C felony.

Merrit is being held at the Ward County Jail, pending his initial appearance. No hearing has been scheduled at this time, according to court records.

Minot police believe this was an isolated incident.
