Preliminary hearing held for man charged with murder

By Charles Crane 1 min read

The proceedings against a Minot man charged with murder for a February 2023 incident at a Minot motel have been restarted after he previously was declared unfit to proceed.

Casey Scott Vollmer, 34, Minot, appeared in North Central District Court on Thursday morning for a preliminary hearing, his first since a restoration conference officially reactivated the murder charge against him.

Vollmer was arrested and charged on Feb. 17, 2023, for allegedly assaulting Albert Granger, 57, outside a north Minot motel. Granger died two days later after being taken to the hospital for treatment. Vollmer was sent to the State Hospital in Jamestown in June for treatment to ensure he could sit for trial but wasn't deemed fit to proceed until October.

Vollmer's next hearing is a pretrial conference scheduled for April 17.
