Mandan man sentenced for burglary
A Mandan man was sentenced to time served and probation after pleading guilty to his role in a theft from a Minot storage unit.
Brandon Lee Decoteau, 35, Mandan, entered a change of plea to guilty on the Class C felony count of burglary on Feb. 16 in North Central District Court.
According to court documents, Decoteau and another defendant named Stanley Leon Miller, 47, Minot, were captured on security footage stealing four mud tires and rims and a Bosch radio station and charger from a storage unit at a southeast Minot business on Sept. 18, 2023. The facility’s owner recognized Miller from previous break-ins and the pair were also identified by the owner of the vehicle they borrowed to transport the items. Miller was later arrested at his home on Sept. 19, 2023, while Decoteau was apprehended on Oct. 25, 2023.
District Court Judge Richard Hagar sentenced Decoteau to five years in the Department of Corrections, to first serve nine days with credit for nine days served. Decoteau was ordered to complete 18 months of supervised probation and assessed $1,100 in court fines and fees. Restitution was reserved by the court, providing the parties 60 days to either agree to terms to schedule a restitution hearing. The value of the stolen items was approximately $1,850.
The case against Miller is proceeding, with a pretrial conference scheduled for March 20.
