Equipment failure causes area spills

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified of crude oil and produced water release occurring in Renville County and a produced water release occurring in Williams County, both on Feb. 22.

The spill in Renville County occurred at the Rowe-State 1 well near Sherwood. Cobra Oil & Gas Corp. reported on Feb. 22 that 11,760 gallons of produced water and 840 gallons of crude oil were released due to equipment failure/malfunction. The products were contained on-site and cleanup is underway. At the time of reporting 210 gallons of oil and all of the produced water had been recovered.

The spill in Williams County occurred at the Krabseth1 well, in Section 24 of Winner Township in the northcentral part of the county.

Nordic Services LLC reported Feb. 23 that 58,800 gallons of produced water were released due to equipment failure/malfunction. Products were contained on-site and cleanup is underway. At the time of reporting all of the produced water had been recovered.

A state inspector has been to the locations and will monitor any additional cleanup required.
