Accomplice to scooter, tool theft sentenced
A Minot woman who pleaded guilty to a role in the theft of several items valued in excess of $18,000 has been sentenced to serve one year and one day with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Cassandra Caitlin Bercier, 23, Minot, was charged with the Class C felony for her role in an April 2023 incident. A Minot resident discovered several Dewalt Cordless hand tools and a 2015 Yamaha scooter belonging to another individual were stolen from his shop garage.
The theft of the items was partially captured by a neighboring building’s surveillance camera, which showed two individuals loading them into the backseat of an SUV. According to court documents, the victim said a part-time employee had allowed a friend to use the shop to work on a vehicle. That friend was identified as Bercier. The victim also told investigators he had been contacted by Bercier through the employee and told she may be able to get some of the items back in return for compensation.
On Feb. 7, North Central District Court Judge Gary Lee sentenced Bercier to five years, to serve one year and one day with credit for a day already served. The court waived a $400 criminal administration fee and a $575 indigent recoupment fee, assessing $125 in court fines and fees. Bercier will be required to pay $18,696 in restitution to the victims.
