The Minot Police Department has arrested a suspect related to a Oct. 9 shooting that resulted in the death of Davin Eby Smith, 34, Minot.

Ian W. Abrahamson, 23, Minot, was arrested on Monday on charges of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony, and manslaughter, a Class B felony. In a prior release, Minot Police shared that Abrahamson had waited for law enforcement to arrive on the scene and cooperated during the investigation. Abrahamson was detained for further questioning by investigators, but he told them the shooting was in self defense. Though no arrests were made at that time, police indicated the investigation was ongoing.

In a release Monday, Minot Police said the charges against Abrahamson were finalized through an investigation by the Attorney General’s office, which is now handling the case due to a conflict of interest at the Ward County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Abrahamson is in custody at the Ward County Jail. Court records indicate his initial appearance has not been scheduled.
