Sentencing reset for Minot man
The sentencing for a Minot man who previously pleaded guilty to leading local law enforcement on a destructive pursuit last year has been rescheduled after he withdrew his request to withdraw his guilty plea.
Joshua Alex Chambers, 19, Minot, had been scheduled for sentencing in November, but the proceeding was delayed after his court-appointed attorney, David Dusek, said he believed his client lacked the reading comprehension to understand the conditions of the plea agreement, which included a guilty plea to a charge of attempted murder, a Class A felony. Chambers filed a request on his own behalf to have his guilty plea withdrawn on the grounds that he was coerced into taking it by Dusek, and Dusek requested to withdraw from the case in light of that development.
Steven Mottinger was appointed on Dec. 12 to represent Chambers. Three days later, Mottinger filed a motion to withdraw his client’s request to withdraw the plea, saying in the filing that his client had changed his mind after “further consideration and discussion with the State’s Attorney’s office.”
Chambers’s sentencing has been set for Feb. 12.
