The Minot post office is among postal facilities in North Dakota and Minnesota undergoing an operational audit, according to the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
"Specifically, we are assessing delivery operations and property conditions at the Mandan Main Post Office, Minot Post Office and Bismarck Post Office. We are also reviewing the efficiency of operations at the Bismarck Processing and Distribution Center," the OIG communication office stated in response to an inquiry. "Besides the N.D. reports, we are also evaluating delivery in Minnesota, including operations in the St. Paul region and in northern Minnesota. Our review in northern Minnesota will include a review of local processing at the Bemidji Post Office and how it impacted operations at nearby units."
The OIG plans to issue a districtwide overview in late spring.
According to a provided description of field operations review audits, an auditing team at a delivery center assesses delivery and customer service operations and property conditions to determine whether internal controls are effective. At a mail processing plant, the team evaluates the efficiency of processing and logistics operations.
The office of Sen. John Hoeven, R-ND, also released a statement regarding the senator's efforts to get U.S. Postal Service officials to fix mail service issues across the state over the past several months, including mail and newspaper delivery delays and broken cluster box units in the Minot area.
"The audit began on January 23 and we look forward to reviewing the IG's reports, which will be issued in stages, to help in our efforts to get the postal service to improve service around the state," the statement said.
