The window has opened for area residents to begin circulating their petitions to get on the June 11 ballot for local elective offices. The filing deadline is April 8.
Minot city and school races will be decided on June 11, which also is the primary election for other candidates looking to advance to the general election Nov. 5.
Terms are expiring for Minot City Council members Stephan Podrygula, Carrie Evans and Scott Burlingame and Minot Park Board members Ken Kitzman and Cliff Hovda. Hovda has indicated he plans to run again, while others are still contemplating or not yet ready to announce a decision.
Jim Rostad, a Ward County commission and Minot Public School Board member, indicated that, as of this time, he plans to run again for both positions. Mike Gessner also said he plans to seek another term on the school board. Bonnie Berryman remains undecided regarding running again for her seat on the school board.
Ward County Commissioner Shelly Weppler, whose term expires, said she is planning to run again for her seat.
Prospective candidates can pick up petitions for circulation in the Finance Department at City Hall for council, Minot Park District office in Minot Municipal Auditorium for park board or the Auditor's Office in the Ward County Administration Building for county commission.
The school district is in the process of revising information packets for candidates. It will publicly announce when documents are approved by the board and petitions become available at the business office at 215 2nd St. SE.
Even-numbered legislative districts will be on the ballot this fall. State offices up for election include governor/lieutenant governor, auditor, insurance commissioner, treasurer, public service commissioner and superintendent of public instruction.
