Minot Public Schools received a grant of $5,000 from the Minot Area Community Foundation’s Give360 Giving Circle on Monday toward its robotics program.

Byron Borgen, Technology and Engineering teacher at Central Campus, was overwhelmed by the support given by the foundation.

“We are so thankful to Give360 for this generous donation. It is exciting to have the community get behind the new junior high school in Minot and especially supporting technology by allowing us to provide new robots for our students," he said.

The new gadgets are LEGO Education SPIKE Robots, which can be constructed and programmed in multiple ways, making for quite the number of possibilities. Borgen said Lego has discontinued support for its previous robots, so the older models are being phased out and replaced by newer versions.

The old robots lasted the schools about 10 to 12 years, and Borgen is hoping the new ones will last just as long, if not longer.
