NDDOT awards $10M in Township Assistance Program funding

Projects in Burt and Cameron townships in Ward County were among 22 projects selected by the North Dakota Department of Transportation for funding through the newly created Township Assistance Program (TAP).

Burt Township was selected to receive $140,800 for culvert replacement and Cameron Townsip wwwill receive $197,800 for road reshape and gravel.

In Bottineau County, Lansford Township will receive $56,100 and Scotia Township $75,200 for reshape and gravel and Antler Township will receive $143,800 for reconstruction. Blooming Valley Township in Divide County will receive $196,200 for reshape and gravel.

Legislation creating the TAP was approved by the 2023 legialture and signed by Gov. Doug Burgum last spring. The program provides $10 million to NDDOT for improvements on township roads and bridges, using state funds to improve local corridors that are considered economic generators. NDDOT worked with partners from Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute, North Dakota Association of Counties and North Dakota Township Officers Association to develop the program.

The TAP received applications for 284 projects totaling $66.7 million in requested funds. Twenty-one projects met program criteria and were fully funded. One alternative project in McKenzie County will be partially funded and receive any unspent funds from other projects. The project involves $2.5 million in road reconstruction in Charbon Township.
