The Minot Public School Board has announced its decision to offer the superintendent position to Scott Faul. Faul will be replacing Mark Vollmer, who will be retiring after the conclusion of the spring term.
Faul has worked in the Minot school district since 2011, and is the assistant superintendent of middle and high school education and director of curriculum for the district.
Faul was one of four candidates up for consideration for the position, a group that board member Jim Rostad said he had "nothing but admiration for."
"We were so fortunate to have this caliber of candidates to apply. Every single one of them, I take my hat off to." Rostad said.
Before discussion began, Board Vice President Mitch Kraft announced that over the weekend he had a personal conversation with one of the candidates which he said could "appear inappropriate." Kraft apologized but said he would be recusing himself from all discussion about any of the candidates before the vote to avoid any appearance of impropriety.
The board did one round of straw votes, with the understanding that any candidate who received a majority of support from board members would be chosen. The final tally was three in support of Faul and one in support of Luke Schafer.
The board then approved a motion to offer the position to Faul to begin with the start of the fall term in August. The board then entered an executive session to provide instruction for contract negotiation.
