Minot man charged with sex offense
The court proceedings for a Minot man charged with two felony offenses involving minors has been complicated by uncertainty around his guardianship conditions.
Dawson Jon Wilcox, 24, Minot, has been charged with promoting or directing an obscene sexual performance by a minor and possession of certain materials prohibited, both Class C felonies. Wilcox appeared virtually for his initial appearance in North Central District Court in Minot on Tuesday before Judge Gary Lee.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, law enforcement began investigating Wilcox after receiving a cybertip regarding images and videos sent over a messaging app which was determined to have been sent through a Minot IP address.
Deputy State’s Attorney Tiffany Sorgen asked for a bond of $250,000 cash or corporate surety and that he have no contact with the victims identified by investigators. Additionally, she asked that he have no access to the internet, and have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Wlicox’s attorney, Alexander Grosz from the Sand Law Firm, appeared in court virtually and offered information regarding the existing guardianship and stated it is not believed Wilcox poses a significant risk.”
Lee ordered Wilcox be held at the Ward County Jail until a hearing can occur to ascertain the exact conditions of the guardianship. That hearing to sort out Wilcox’s bond conditions has not yet been scheduled, but a preliminary hearing has been set for Feb. 1.
