Mohall meeting to discuss orphan wells

MOHALL – An educational meeting on orphan oil wells will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Mohall.

Landowners and other members of the public are invited to talk with scientists, data specialists and elected officials during the event that runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Mohall Civic Center. Discussion will take place around the North Dakota Industrial Commission’s decisions related to present and future orphan wells, such as those in the Renville, Wadley and Wiley oil fields. Among those providing information will be Fintan Dooley, coordinator with the Salted Lands Council, Rolla agronomist Marv Nelson and Keene farmer/rancher Donny Nelson, founder and president of the Salted Lands Council.

The council advocates for using the Legacy Fund to restore productivity of oil industry-impacted lands, and it supports the conventional oil industry in establishing new wells and plugging and reclaiming conventional oil wells to relieve the last developer of the risk of bankruptcy.
