National vintage aircraft group’s leader to speak in Minot

The national president of the Vintage Aircraft Association will be guest speaker on Saturday during "Women, Wine & Wings," a special event at Minot's Dakota Territory Air Museum.
The event, from 6-8 p.m., will celebrate the contributions of women in the aviation industry.
Dusenbury, of Walnut Cove, North Carolina, has had a diverse career in aviation. Also a longtime vintage aircraft enthusiast and Vintage Aircraft Association (VAA) member and chapter leader, she has been VAA president for several years ago.
VAA is the world's largest organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of vintage aircraft. It is a part of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, according to the EAA website.
Dusenbury said Heather Taylor spoke at the Minot event a few years ago about a documentary she made about the first women's air derby of 1929.
"I participated in that documentary," said Dusenbury.
Taylor is the writer, producer, director and researcher of the award-winning documentary, "Breaking Through the Clouds: The First Women's National Air Derby."
Dusenbury said she plans during her presentation on Saturday to put the documentary and the women who flew at that time in perspective - "kind of the sign of the times and what they had to overcome." Her presentation will include a discussion about some of the planes.
According to Robin Brekhus, events coordinator for the air museum, admission for the Saturday event is $25 per person and includes refreshments, light hors d'oeuvres and the presentation. Tickets can be purchased online at dakotaterritoryairmuseum.com or at the door.
The museum's final event of this season will be Night at the Museum Hangar Dance on Saturday, Oct. 21.
