Submitted Photo Rod Lassey of Cartwright works on setting up a display scene representing a World War I machine gun nest at the two-day Northern Plains Military Collectors Show, sponsored by Fort Buford 6th Infantry Association, a history reenactment group, last weekend in Williston. Displays showed a plethora of items used in military services and by the public during those times. Lassey's display contained a myriad of items, including field phones, uniforms, rifles, handguns, artillery shells, bayonets and helmets from the many countries that took part WWI. Submitted Photo Bruce Tascona, left, of La Riviere, Manitoba, Canada, tells attendees at the Northern Plains Military Collectors Show in Williston last Saturday about the 1880 Canadian 90th Battalion Winnpeg Rifles Officers tunic that he had on display. It is the only British military uniform to not have a lion's head but instead has a bison on both the uniform insignias. The unit became known as the Little Black Devils. This unit's name originated when the enemy encountered them in battle and said, “We know the RCMP, but who are those black devils?” Tascona and his wife, Pam, own a private, World War I museum. Starting at $2.99/week.
