Lignite man charged with three felonies

A Lignite man charged with multiple felonies made his initial appearance in North Central District Court on Tuesday.

Cassidy Johnson, 32, Lignite, was arrested on three charges – gross sexual imposition, victim less than 15 years old, a Class AA felony; luring minors by computer or other electronic means, a Class B felony; and possession of certain materials prohibited, a Class C felony. The charges against Johnson arise from an investigation into accusations made by a parent that he was involved in a sexual relationship with the parent’s juvenile daughter.

According to court documents, the juvenile provided a statement to the Kenmare Police Department and was interviewed at the Northern Plains Children Advocacy center, where she detailed her alleged relationship with Johnson and said he was aware she was younger than 15 years old. Investigators also allege the juvenile and Johnson exchanged sexual images on Snapchat, and that Johnson saved the photos.

Johnson made his initial appearance before Judge Richard Hagar, who set Johnson’s bond at $250,000 and ordered that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and have no access to social media. Johnson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 12 at 11:30 a.m.
