Guest artists to appear at MSU’s NOTSTOCK

Minot State University will hold its 16th annual NOTSTOCK from Sept. 21-23.
A lineup of guest artists will share their expertise with community members through various exhibits and workshops that are free and open to the public. Events will take place on MSU grounds or in downtown Minot.
There will be an exhibit in the Northwest Arts Center titled “Piotr Szyhaliski: Prints from the Labor Camp.” The exhibit includes 225 posters Szyhaliski created during the COVID-19 pandemic, titled “COVID-19: Labor Camp Report,” as well as works from his “War Reports” and “We Are Working All the Time” series. He will do live printing demonstrations as well as give presentations on his work on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 21 and 22, at noon. Szyhaliski also will head a march around the MSU campus with participants carrying a large banner.
Kyle Tran Myhre, a poet and activist who has performed at the United Nations and has been a member of two National Poetry Slam championship teams, will perform Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. Myhre also will visit classes and conduct workshops with MSU students.
Sasha Barrett is a ceramics artist whose work carries a narrative with references to the war in Ukraine, where Barret grew up. Barret will hold ceramics demonstrations all three days of NOTSTOCK and give a presentation on Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m.
Sarah Honerman, MSU assistant professor of theater, will lead the workshop “Improv & Movement” Thursday and Friday, Sept. 21 and 22, at 10 a.m.
Downtown activities start at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Taube Museum of Art, where the “NOTSTOCK Poster Retrospective” is on display. A reception will follow with hands-on printing activities. A free, all ages concert will follow the reception at the Blue Rider, starting at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 23, there will be music and activities from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in downtown Minot. Artists also will have artwork and books available to purchase. The closing event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Arts Center, where there will be food, drinks and live music.
