Minot Community Endowment Fund presents grant awards

The Minot Community Endowment Fund has announced the recipients of its recent grant cycle. In a special presentation recently held at the Minot Commission on Aging, several organizations were awarded grants totaling $55,560 to support their programs and initiatives.
The grant recipients and their respective projects are as follows:
- Minot Curling Club's Youth Curling Program startup: $9,600.
- Minot Commission on Aging, Inc.'s Senior Nutrition Program: $7,500.
- Minot Area Council of the Arts' Arts in the City: $7,000.
- Jim Hill Middle School for bus passes for students: $5,000.
- The Welcome Table's Lord's Cupboard Food Pantry: $5,000.
- Minot Rural Fire Protection District to purchase new structure gear: $5,000.
- The Sanctuary Foundation's Road to Recovery: $4,000.
- Northern Plains Children's Advocacy Center for security/safety: $3,860.
- Minot Family YMCA for CPR and lifeguard training equipment: $3,600.
- Operation Homefront, Inc., holiday meals for military: $2,500.
- Companions for Children, Inc.'s Lunch Pals/School-based youth mentoring: $2,500.
The Minot Community Endowment Fund was established in 1981 by a grant from the Otto Bremer Trust and is a permanent part of the North Dakota Community Foundation. The fund is governed locally by an advisory committee made up of volunteers from various service clubs in Minot.
The endowment fund has about $1.7 million in assets, thanks in part to two estate gifts from T.A.t and Anna Solheim and Charles and Madge Westlie. All gifts to the fund are pooled and invested, and only a portion of the earnings are used to grant back to the community each year. As the fund grows, so does the annual grantable amount.
