Trial set for Watford City negligent homicide case
WATFORD CITY — The trial date has been set for a man charged with running over a six-year-old child in an apartment parking lot in Watford City.
Julian Montoya, 19, Watford City, faces two felony charges of negligent homicide-child victim and leaving the scene of an accident for the April 8 incident that resulted in the death of Ian Matteo Garcia Turcios, who was out riding his bicycle when he was struck by Montoya’s 2021 Toyota Tundra.
Montoya was scheduled to appear at a pretrial conference in district court in McKenzie County, but the hearing was reportedly canceled by his Attorney Philip Becher after a plea agreement with state prosecutors could not be reached. Montoya’s jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. before Judge Robin Schmidt.
