Minot State head women's basketball coach Mike Brandt received a very distinguished national honor this summer from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as he was selected as a new member of the WBCA's Board of Directors.
The honor also comes with responsibilities which the Beavers' head man began earlier this month, serving as a voting member at his first WBCA Board of Directors meeting.
"With the WBCA being such a powerful force in the advancement of women's basketball for more than 40 years, I am both very excited and honored to be a part of the Board of Directors," Brandt said. "Hopefully, I will be able to use my experience coaching at the high school, junior college, NCAA Division ll, and NCAA Division l levels to help promote the game.
"The women's game is at an all-time high and it is an exciting time to be a part of this organization."
Founded in 1981, the WBCA has more than 3,000 members who coach at every level of the game, from professional and Olympic coaches to local youth basketball coaches.
The Board of Directors is made up of 31 of those 3,000-plus members with Coach Brandt joining Stephanie Yelton from West Florida and Dave Slifer from Central Missouri as representatives at the NCAA Division II coaching level.
