STANLEY - A Montana man fleeing a traffic stop was seriously injured when speeding through a construction zone west of Stanley Saturday, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Sidney Bowman, 31, of Conrad, Montana, was transported by a Tioga ambulance to Tioga Medical Center and airlifted to Trinity Health in Minot. He was charged with a felony for driving under the influence and also was charged with fleeing a peace officer, driving under revocation, reckless endangerment and multiple weapon violations.
A Stanley police officer had attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Ford F-150 driven by Bowman. The Ford fled westbound on U.S. Highway 2 at speeds in excess of 100 mph. At about 11:09 p.m., the Ford entered a 45 mph construction zone about 20 miles west of Stanley at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the speed zone, leaving the roadway. It entered the median, striking a steel bridge guardrail that prevented the vehicle from traveling off the bridge into the White Earth River. Bowman was not wearing a seatbelt, the Highway Patrol reported.
In addition to Stanley Police and the Highway Patrol, both the Mountrail and Williams County Sheriff's Offices responded to the incident.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
