WILLISTON - Fire damaged two modular homes in Williston Friday after a vehicle struck a residential gas meter, according to the Williston Fire Department.
The fire was reported in Sand Creek Estates at 11:29 a.m. First-arriving crews found a pickup truck fully engulfed by fire, a single-wide modular home that was on fire and another single wide modular home that had heat damage. All occupants were able to safely evacuate.
It was discovered that the pickup had struck a residential gas meter, which had started the fire. It has not been determined if human or mechanical errors contributed to the incident.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the residential structure and contained the fire damage to half of the residence. Crews then removed the pickup to fully extinguish it. The fire was determined to be under control by noon and fully extinguished by 2:15 p.m.
One firefighter was transported to CHI St. Alexius Williston to be treated for heat exhaustion.
